Knowledge of the Order of St John (KSJ/408)
Course Information and Written Test

Introduction
The Knowledge of the Order of St John (KSJ/408) is a proficiency badge under the Cadet Proficiency Badge Scheme. It covers the following:

The written test, held at every quarter of the year is administered at the St John Headquarters. Members who pass the test (minimum of 50% of the total marks) will qualify for the Knowledge of the Order of St John (KSJ/408) badge under the Cadet Proficiency Badge Scheme.
 
The badge also serves as compulsory criteria to qualify for the following awards that the cadet can achieve:


Course Information
The Knowledge of the Order of St John course is conducted at school level during CCA training. Officers (including teacher-officers) are encouraged to go through the lessons with the cadets.

It is stressed that the ‘knowledge’ does not refer to the ‘history’ of the Order of St John. Too much emphasis on the dates and names are not required.


Pre-Requisite
Members will qualify to sit for the Knowledge of the Order of St John (KSJ/408) if they meet the following pre-requisites:

** Secondary 1 members will be eligible to sit for the test in September of the year that they join as members of SJAB.

Test Dates
The test dates scheduled for the year 2010 are as follows:

Schools are to refer to the timeslots and the number of candidates available before booking.
 
 
Test Venue
The written test will be held at the St John Headquarters. The address of the St John HQ is as follows:

Should the test venue be changed, schools will be informed through the officer who registered online via email.  The email will also be copied to the respective Zone CPB Officer / Coordinator. (new information)

The testing room allotted to the candidates will be released to the schools upon confirmation of the registration.
 
 
Booking Procedures
1. Schools are to refer to the booking information for the available timeslots and vacancies.

2. The registration will be opened for booking ONE month before the test date.  Schools will then register online for the timeslot via the
    CPB websiteRegistration will close ONE week before the test date. (revised information)

3. Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis.

3. After online registration, the teacher/officer will submit the following to the respective Zone CPB Officers:
    (a) Namelist containing NRIC, Full-Name and School (in Microsoft Excel Format)
    (b) Email & Contact Number of the teacher-in-charge / officer making the registration

    The namelist should be submitted to ONE WEEK from the online registration date.

    Schools who register much later, the date to submit the namelist will be indicated in the email sent to the teacher / officer making the
    booking and copied to the CPB Officer / Coordinator, and in the booking information website. Schools are to adhere to the dates given.

For late registration, the latest date for schools to submit namelist will be ONE WEEK before the commencement of the course.

4. To ensure effective communication, Zone CPB officers are to ensure that the schools provide email address / contact number of the teacher/officer registering for the test.
 
5. The school and the corresponding zone will be informed via email that the registration has been confirmed. The confirmation includes the time allotted and the venue of the test (testing room).
 
6. Schools will then proceed to make payment for the test ($1.00 each). Regardless of the date of the online registration, payment must be made latest ONE WEEK before the date of the test . (revised information)

7. The test fee per candidate is $1.00. Please pay cash (at St John HQ) or via cheque payable to “St John Ambulance Singapore” and send it to the following address and addressee:

Please indicate at the back of the cheque, “Knowledge of the Order of St John Written Test”, the date of the test and the name of your school.

 
7. Should schools require receipt (for reimbursement purposes), please include a self-addressed (with stamp) envelope.

8. The namelist submitted earlier must be confirmed at the time of payment.  There will be no changes in the namelist after that.
 
9. No refund will be made in any case for the payment, including participants who register and paid for the test, but were absent on the day of the test or withdraws before the test.
 
9. There will be no walk-in registration on the day of the test. Schools who walk-in to register for the test will not be entertained.
 
10. Schools are not to make replacement of candidates’ list once the registration is confirmed.  Candidates who walk-in to replace the candidates who are absent will not be allowed to sit for the test.
 
 
Instructions to Candidates
1. The attire for candidates sitting for the test will be school attire with St John/school T-shirt.
 
2. Candidates are to report to the officer/teacher/student NCO (SGT and above) appointed by the school.
 
3. Candidates are to bring along the following writing materials on the day of the test, and no borrowing is allowed:
    (a) 2B pencil
    (b) Soft Eraser (preferred)
    (c) NRIC or EZLink Card (for identification purpose)
 
4. Candidates who are late for the written test by 15 minutes will not be permitted to sit for the test.
 
5. Candidates are to observe examination regulations at the duration of the test.
 
6. Candidates found cheating during the test will be disqualified and will be barred from taking the test for the next 6 months. The school’s principal will be informed for disciplinary actions to be taken.

 
Instructions to Officers and Teachers
1. Schools are to appoint officers/teachers/student NCO (SGT and above) to assemble the candidates at St John HQ fifteen (15) minutes before the commencement of the test date.
 
2. Attendance is to be marked and submit to the invigilator in charge of the testing room.

 
Structure of the Written Test
1. The Written Test comprises fifty (50) Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and candidates are to shade the answers on the Optical Answer Sheet (OAS) provided.
 
2. Candidates are to write down clearly the following before the commencement of the test:
    (a) Full-Name (as in the NRIC)
    (b) NRIC Number (and shade the bubbles clearly)
    (c) School
    (d) Zone
 
3. The duration of the test is 40 minutes. Further instructions will be given by the invigilator conducting the written test.
 
 
Release of Results
1. The results of the written test will be released via the CPBS Website, available at two weeks after the test date.
 
2. Schools can check the website for the results of candidates who passed the test. Candidates who have failed or candidates who were absent will not be reflected.
 
 
Application for Cadet Proficiency Badge
1. Candidates who passed the test will be awarded the proficiency badge.
 
2. The badges will be applied for the candidates who passed the test, via the CPB Management System.
 
3. Upon successful application, the certificates will be printed and distributed to the schools via the Zone CPB officers.
