OBJECTIVES
The Crime Prevention Proficiency Badge Scheme was devised to promote crime
prevention awareness among students. Through structured activities and
experiential learning, the scheme aims not only to pique students’ curiosity in
crime prevention, but instill a knowledge of crime prevention skills that not
only minimizes the risk of they becoming victims of crime, but allow them to act
as ambassadors of crime prevention to their peers, thus spreading the word of
crime prevention.

COURSE REGISTRATION
Schools are to register this course online through the
CPBS Website
1. Name of School
2. Name of Teacher / Officer Conducting the Course
The conducting officer / teacher /
instructor should be someone who has attended the leaders course conducted by
NCPC.
3. Number of Participants
4. Commencement Date of the course
5. Email Address of Corps Superintendent / Officer-in-Charge / Overall
Teacher-in-Charge (for correspondence purposes).
Once schools have registered for the course, they can proceed with the payment
of the course fees and collection of the course materials from the Brigade
Manager. Schools are advised to make appointment with the Brigade Manager to
collect the course materials at St John Headquarters.
Schools are to conduct the course organised by the National Crime Prevention
Council. The materials provided by NCPC are up-to-date and they are
the centralised institution for the Crime Prevention Course.
COURSE FEES
The course fee is $3.00 per participant. The
course fees will cover the following items:
(a) Participant’s handbook
(b) Souvenirs (if any)
(c) Cadet Proficiency Badge (to be awarded upon completion of the course)
Schools are to collate payment collected from cadets and issue the cheque
payable to “St John Ambulance Singapore”.
Please indicate at the back of the cheque “Payment for Crime Prevention Course
2010” and school.
Collated course fees (cash / cheque) can be paid directly at NHQ Secretariat
Office. If you prefer to mail the cheque, please mail the cheque to:

If you require the receipt for reimbursement, please enclose a note indicating
your name, school, mailing address and fax number. St John HQ will fax the
receipt to you and follow up by mailing the receipt to you.
CONDUCTING THE COURSE
Qualified teachers and officers can conduct the course using the
POWERPOINT SLIDES (2009 Version) provided.
CONDUCTING ASSESSMENT
The assessment comprises the following:
Theory Assessment
Schools conducting the course are to request for the softcopy of the
test papers (2009 version) by emailing to the Course Coordinator. In your email,
please indicate the following:
a. Name of School
b. NRIC and Name of Teacher / Officer Conducting the Assessment / Test
c. Date of Written Test
The softcopy of the test paper will be emailed to you.
All written tests must be conducted before commencing with the visit to NPC &
Practical Assignment.
NHQ trusts the professionalism of the teachers and officers conducting the test
with confidentiality. Schools are also to take note that the test papers are
classified RESTRICTED within the SJAB CCA units only.
With the latest technology in E-Learning, teachers are allowed to upload the
questions in their school’s E-Learning platform (ie. AskNLearn, LEAD etc) to
conduct the online theory assessment. This helps to cut down the amount of
marking involved.
Practical Assignment
Please brief the participants the requirement of the project and ensure that
projects are to be completed within 2 weeks after completing the theory
assessment. There is no standard rubric to assess the projects, but teachers are
encouraged to use the rubrics used in schools under Project Work to assess these
projects.
The Practical Assignment must be completed and submitted before conducting the
Written Test.
VISITING THE CRIME PREVENTION EXHIBITION CENTRES
It is compulsory for all participants to visit the Neighbourhood Police Centre
(NPC) as part of the course. Schools are to contact the NPCs directly for
arrangement to visit the NPC.

POST-COURSE ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURES
Upon completion of the course, schools can apply for the badges
via the Mass Application Module in the CPB Management
System. Once the application is submitted online, the following
documents are to be completed and submitted to the respective Zone CPB Officers:
(a) Detailed
Results
Please indicate ONY those who passed the course in overall
Upon receipt of the detailed results, Zone CPB officer
will recommend the application via the CPB Management System. Zone CPB Officers
are to retain the detailed results until the applications are approved.
AWARD OF CERTIFICATE & BADGES
Upon completion of the course, assessment, projects and visit to NPC, your
respective Zone CPB Officers will process the applications. Members will receive
the following once applications are approved:
(a) Certificate of Participation (awarded by NCPC)
(b) Cadet Proficiency Certificate (awarded by SJAB)
(c) Souvenirs by NCPC (if any)
(d) Crime Prevention Badge (awarded by SJAB)
Members do not need to
purchase the badge from St John Store.
