BRIGADE ORGANISATION
1. Organisation and Administration
The Brigade, other than in the United Kingdom and the Priories, is organised on a national or territorial basis. In independent nations it usually operates and is administered under the authority of the St John Council, acting through the Chief Commissioner; but subject to the eventual authority, normally exercised through the Commissioner-in-Chief, of the Grand Priory of the Order, which is the one ultimate bond of identity of the Brigade wherever it exists.
In British Colonies the Brigade is administered directly and individually by the Commissioner-in-Chief.
The Brigade in
Singapore is under the command of a Chief Commissioner, and is divided into
Zones under command of Zone Commissioners.
2. Zone
The whole Brigade
in Singapore is divided into 10 zones. Each zone may consist of 10 to 20 corps.
Zones are administered by a Zone Commissioner who may hold the rank of
equivalent to grade I or super grade IV officers.
3. Corps
Units in a school is administered as a Corps. A corps may consist of cadets and adults of both sexes. There is no restriction in the strength of each corps. For administrative purposes, members in a corps may be sub-divided into sections according to sex, age or standard of study etc. Sections need not be registered with the National Headquarters.
Corps are administered by a Corps superintendent who may hold the rank of equivalent to grade IV or grade III officers.
Titles of Corps
Each corps, shall be distinguished by its local or school name. The unit may also be numbered or lettered or have as part of its title the name of a company or of a person (whose written permission for this use, if living, must be obtained); but in all cases the name of the locality must also be included e.g.
"Name of School.. Corps.
"Name of Town.. Corps"
In cases
where the name of a person is included in the title, information as to the
reasons for the choice of the name should be forwarded to the Chief
Commissioner, with BF/RS or BFC/RS.
Registrations of Corps
When a new Corps is formed, BF/RS OR BFC/RS with a copy of any proposed Corps Rules additional to those in the Membership Book, must be submitted through the usual channels to the Chief Commissioner.
If the Chief
Commissioner approves the formation, the Registration Form will be returned to
the Corps. Nothing may be added to it or any alteration made on it. The
seniority of Corps is determined by the date of registration.
4. Sections
The smallest unit
of the Brigade is a Section. A Section, where possible, will be attached to a
Corps and the member-in-Charge will be responsible to the Superintendent of
that corps.
5. Disbandment
In the event of it being necessary to disband a unit of the Brigade, the sanction of the Chief Commissioner must be obtained.
If a Corps is suspended through inactivity and not resuscitated for 12 months, it will be disbanded. Any Corps being formed in the same locality after this period must be registered as a new Corp.
On suspension, the
Member-in-Charge will close the account and prepare a statement of accounts,
including any cash in hand held. A cheque to cover the whole amount will be
forwarded to the Zone Commissioner for retention pending revival. In addition
an inventory of stores and equipment should be prepared and forwarded to the
Zone Commissioner. The Zone Commissioner will then submit his recommendations
to the Chief Commissioner with regard to disposal of these items.
